01About these terms
These terms apply when you use the AI Safety India website, create an account, apply to our programmes, join our groups or come to our events.
By doing any of these, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the website or our programmes.
Our privacy policy explains how we handle your personal data. It is part of these terms.
02Your account
- You must be 18 or over to create an account.
- Give your real name and an email address you use. Keep them up to date.
- One account per person. Do not share it.
- Keep your password safe. If you think someone else has used your account, tell us straight away.
- If you sign in with Google, Google's own terms also apply to your Google account.
- You can close your account at any time by emailing us. See the privacy policy.
03Applying to programmes
- Answer honestly and in your own words. You may use tools to check spelling and grammar.
- Places are limited. Our reviewers decide who joins, and we may not be able to explain each decision.
- An offer of a place is personal. You cannot pass it to someone else.
- We may withdraw an offer or a place if an application contained false information, or if someone breaks the code of conduct.
- Our programme dates, formats and content may change. We will tell you about changes that affect you.
04Code of conduct
This applies in our cohorts, reading groups, local groups, online spaces and events.
- Share ideas constructively. Disagree with arguments, not people.
- No harassment, discrimination or abusive language, in person or online.
- Do not copy others' work and present it as your own.
- Describe your role and any group you represent accurately, especially when working with partner organisations.
- Respect other people's privacy. Do not share another participant's details, words or work outside the group without their permission.
If something goes wrong, tell a facilitator or email contact@aisafetyindia.org. We may remove anyone who breaks this code from a programme, group or event.
05Events
- You register for most events on Luma. Luma's own terms apply to that registration.
- We may take photos at events and use them on our website and social media. If you do not want to appear, tell the organiser at the event or email us, and we will remove photos of you.
- Follow the rules of the venue, and the code of conduct above.
06Our materials and your work
- Curricula, reading lists and other materials on this website are for learning. Unless a page says otherwise, the text and design belong to AI Safety India or the people who made them.
- You may use and share our materials for learning, with credit. Do not sell them or present them as your own.
- Your application answers stay yours. You let us use them to review your application and run our programmes.
- Work you make during a programme, such as a blog or project, stays yours. We will ask before we publish it.
07Other websites and services
Our website links to other websites and uses services run by others, such as Google, Luma, Substack and WhatsApp. We are not responsible for their content, terms or privacy practices. Read their policies before you use them.
08What we do not promise
- AI Safety India is a community field-building organisation. We are not a university, and our programmes do not lead to an accredited degree.
- Course content, reading lists and career advice are offered as they are, without warranties of any kind. They are not legal, financial or professional advice.
- Taking part in a programme does not guarantee a job, fellowship or place in another programme.
- We try to keep the website available and accurate, but we cannot promise it will always be either.
09Limits on our liability
As far as the law allows, AI Safety India is not liable for indirect or unexpected losses that come from using our website or programmes.
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under Indian law that cannot be limited.
10Suspending or closing an account
- You can stop using our website and close your account at any time.
- We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that puts other people or our services at risk. Where we can, we will tell you why first.
- When an account closes, we handle its data as set out in the privacy policy.
11Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top of this page.
If a change is significant, we will email account holders before it takes effect. If you keep using the website or our programmes after that, you accept the new terms.
12Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India.
If you have a problem, please contact us first. Most things can be sorted out quickly. If not, the courts of India will decide.
